I had planned to take a walk over Arthur’s Seat to Duddingston this afternoon, but that was before the rain set in and made that a very much less good idea than it was first thing this morning. Instead I settled down with Film 4 and watched a classic British film from 1947, Green for Danger, with one of my all time favourite actors, Alistair Sim. What I had not realised, that is until I came to create a post for A Brush with Art, was that he was in fact a son of this beautiful city.
His career in film was a most prolific one, and he palyed some outstanding roles during his long and successful working life. Although he had a face that could be said to be well suited to comedy, he colud play roles as diverse as Ebenezer Scrooge and the headmistress in two of the St. Trinians films. He also had a stage career with Roles such as Othello and Captain Hook.
