Rosie Kay at Dancebase
2008 August 18
After seeing Terry Pratchett on Saturday my other woman and myself joined up with Bondwoman and her other man to go and see some dance. The “other woman” and the “other man” are, incidentally friends of ours from out on the west coast. But I digress, we went to Dancebase in the Grassmarket for a dance double bill, the first bit of which was completely incomprehensible, at least to myself. We were actually there to see the second performance by Rosie Kay, who is an outstanding dancer, and a pleasure to watch, at least I think so…

Fantastic, I love these!! The lighting is fabulous.
Dido: thanks for the kind comment. I agree the lighting is just right, I initially used the flash and the results were not that good, but as soon as I suppressed the flash, well you can see the result… Two fantastic photographs, said he modestly.
Hi there.
Thanks for the comment, but I have a couple of points. Firstly- did you get permission for these photos from me? Secondly, I do rather object to the term ‘eye candy’. Rather sexist perhaps, considering I am not only the dancer, but the choreographer and the company director. A little more than just eye candy??
Glad you liked the work, but photography during a performance can be very distracting for the performers. I did notice!!
Kindest,
Rosie Kay
Rosie: I note your comment, and am sorry that what I siad offended, it was not meant in an offensive way, more in a light hearted manner. Personally I do not think that the term “eye candy” is at all sexist these days as it is used about both sexes equally, however, I will amend it…
On the point of the photographs themselves I am afraid that we are going to have to agree to differ. I feel that I am perfectly at liberty to take photographs in a public venue unless requested not to do so, and there was no such request at Dancebase; maybe in future you should request that photography is not allowed. I did want to use a photograph of your dance partner also but, unfortunately, those were the only photographs that were good enough to use.
With regard to you being “not only the dancer, but the choreographer and the company director”, that was the whole point of the link to your website, to allow people to find out more about you without making the text of the post too long and thus detracting from the photographs…
